COVID-19 Updates

The Ohio Department of Education has created a Coronavirus (COVID-19) Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) site for Ohio's Schools and Districts: Click HERE to access this updated information.

 

The Ohio Department of Education has released a document entitled, "Considerations for Students with Disabilities During Ohio’s Ordered School-Building Closure", to provide guidance for serving students with disabilities, which can be accessed by clicking here:  FAQ: Students with Disabilities

 

The U.S. Department of Education released a question-and-answer document pertaining to students with disabilities and COVID-19. The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services’ (OSERS) document answers questions schools might have about students with disabilities and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) as related to the COVID-19. The U.S. Department of Education released a Supplemental Fact Sheet Addressing the Risk of COVID-19 in Preschool, Elementary and Secondary Schools While Serving Children with Disabilities - click HERE to download the fact sheet.

 

The Office of Civil Rights has also published a number of important resources for elementary and secondary schools including the following:  

 

The Federal Government has issued Administrative Relief for Recipients and Applicants of Federal Financial Assistance Directly Impacted by COVID-19 due to Loss of Operations (Office of Management and Budget) - click HERE to download that guidance and information.

 

ODE released the 21st Century Community Learning Center After-school Program Guidance available HERE.

 

ODE released FAQ for Residential Treatment Facilities that can be found HERE .

 

ODE released guidance on supporting whole-child nutrition - During the ordered school-building closure period, schools may continue to receive reimbursement for meals served by participating in the Seamless Summer Option (SSO) or the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). Schools may operate as open, restricted open or targeted outreach sites. The Ohio Department of Education received national and state updates impacting Ohio’s meal service during the ordered school-building closure period. Click HERE for information relative to the State Order and National Waiver Updates.

 

Based on the governor’s recently announced Executive Order following the confirmation of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Ohio, the Department of Education is canceling, postponing or modifying the format of several meetings and events.  The Ohio Department of Education is reporting on the status of department-sponsored meetings and events - click here:  Ohio Department of Education Meeting and Event Cancellations

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has created interim guidance for administrators of K-12 schools and childcare programs - access these resources HERE.

 

LEGISLATIVE RESPONSE

The Ohio General Assembly passed HB 197 with unanimous support out of both chambers.  To follow are the associated documents and resources:

OESCA will continue to update these resources as the Ohio General Assembly acts on measures relate to COVID-19 including, but not limited to HB 581 and HB 582.

 

CONGRESSIONAL RESPONSE

The U.S. Congress approved a $2 Trillion stimulus package, the Coronavirus Aid, Re lief, and Economic Security Act’’ or the ‘‘CARES Act’’.  You can access that by clicking HERE.
